When currency traders turn on the economy of a developing country they can do enormous damage, throwing millions of people into poverty. A growing worldwide movement is calling for the introduction of a Tobin tax. This small tax (maybe 0.1%) would be imposed on every currency transaction. It would calm financial markets, protect developing countries and generate billions of dollars which could be used to eradicate global poverty. (War on Want)
